Make yourself Dreadlocks
Think dreadlocks and you think of Bob Marley. If you are tired of the usual ‘boy-cut’ and want to try something different and wild, we’d suggest you go for the dreadlocks. Now your mother and wife/ girlfriend might just totally flip when they hear of your decision and they will try to convince you otherwise. But a man’s got to do, what a man’s got to do.
Explained below is the method to do your dreadlocks.
1. Step 1
First section the hair into squares. These square sections will make round dreads. Make sure the squares are approximately between 1″ and 2” as this size works well with most people. Any smaller, and you will be left with thinner dreads. Secure the sections temporarily with rubber bands.
2. Step 2
After the hair is sectioned use a dread comb to comb the hair backwards. Comb repeatedly towards the scalp. This procedure is known as backcombing. Eventually your hair will start to pack up at the roots. It is helpful to roll the hair you are holding between your fingers for a while while you are backcombing.
3. Step 3
Continue backcombing, slowly working towards the ends of the hair, making the dread as tight as possible. When you reach the ends you can secure the dread with a rubber band. Another rubber band on the roots will help the dread stay tight at its base. The rubber bands can be removed after the dread has matured.
4. Step 4
After the rubber bands are applied to each dread the dreads should be waxed with a dread wax that does not contain petroleum. A good dread wax will tame loose hairs and help the hair dread much faster.
We encourage you to start with clean, residue free hair as it makes the process go much faster. Any residue in the hair tends to help the hair slip out of knots as you backcomb. Also be sure that the hair is completely dry when you back comb it.
Follow these simple steps and tips, and you’re set to rock the dreadlocks look!
